Nampa’s Got Heart!

Mercy Medical Center is now offering Interventional Cardiology Services for those in need of treatment for clogged, blocked, or collapsed arteries.

Interventional Cardiologists Scott R. Hiatt, D.O., and Peter G. Roan, M.D. have joined our team here at Mercy Medical Center to provide the best Cardiac Care to these people in need.

Interventional Cardiology, often referred to as Angioplasty, is a minimally invasive procedure that allows cardiologists to insert a small balloon tip catheter into an artery, usually the femoral artery, and advance it to where the clog or collapse artery is.

Once in place, the balloon, at the tip of the catheter, is expanded to create an expansion of the affected area and allow the blood flow to that artery to be restored.  On several occasions, a small device, called a stent, is placed inside the artery to assist the artery in staying open.  Placement of the stent is also minimally invasive and patients are usually able to leave the hospital the next morning after the procedure.

With Nampa being the second largest city in the state of Idaho, the need for cardiology services is apparent. Patients in Nampa and surrounding communities who are in immediate need of angioplasty no longer need to expend valuable time in transit to another facility and risk loosing valuable heart muscle and function. Offering these services in Nampa also allows local families to travel only a short distance to be with loved ones who undergo the procedure and require a stay in the hospital.

Dr. Hiatt and Dr. Roan emphasize the importance of prevention in their practice and encourage you or anyone at risk of heart ailments to schedule regular checkups with your family physician or internist. If necessary, your doctor can refer you to one of our new cardiologists.

Cardiology care is at the heart of Mercy Medical's Center's highly advanced healthcare services.
